Death To Your Speakers - news, reviews & interviews

What's News - December 2010

November 30th 2010 08:53
Ok so I'll admit I've been really slack with this part of my blog for a few months now, but this month I'll try to add some more news articles and give you more cool reviews and interviews. This month I'll be focusing a lot on the inaugural No Sleep Til... that will be touring around Australia. leading up to the event will be some classic album reviews from some of the bands on the bill plus a review of the event itself from Sydney. Look further down this post for news on the timetables for each city.

Also, this month there will be a couple of massive interviews in the likes of The Decendents and Less Than Jake. Two long running, iconic punk bands who will be making their way around the country in coming months. Plus gig reviews of Hot Water Music, Bouncing Souls, Jack Johnson and more.

Plus it is that time of the year when I start thinking about compiling my top five album and gigs for the year. Let me say, there has been some great albums this year and some amazing live shows. And apparently some dude in a red suit riding reindeer is meant to be coming. I hope he doesn't come on Jesus' birthday...I think he really hates having to share his big day with a fat recluse who only comes out once a year.......anyway I digress

Tom Gabel of Against Me! has finally broke the bands silence on why they cancelled their Australian tour just 9 days out from the shows back in October. It seems the band have ended their relationship with major label Warner/Sire. Gabel posted this statement online

"An apology is long over due, to everyone who bought tickets to come out and see us at any of the tour dates we had to cancel this past October and November, we're sorry. Canceling tour dates is the last thing that we ever want to do, especially when the dates have us going to some of our favorite places in the world, but this past October a culmination of circumstances were engulfing us and we had to take some time off from touring to go home and sort things out.

On a related note, after almost a five year relationship we are leaving Sire/Warner. We have nothing but gratitude towards all the people we worked with at the label and feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to make the records we made while with the label.

We'll be getting back out on the road starting with a handful of radio station festival shows early this December. Our friend Jay Weinberg will be sitting behind the drum kit for us, which we're very excited about. In January we're going to be heading out with Fences and Cheap Girls for a couple weeks before joining the Dropkick Murphy's in their month long celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Specifics about all the shows should be up on the website shortly if they aren't already. At some point this new year we also hope to reschedule the Australia, Europe and the U.K. canceled tour dates. Again, our sincerest apologies to all our fans for the cancellations."

Hopefully we will see the band in 2011 and I am sure many will hope this is an opportunity for the band to return to an indie label and back to their past sound.

The Misfits have canned their February tour of Australia and New Zealand. Promoters New Noise Agency issued the statement, “Due to timing and our current situation, we are unable to run this tour. We sincerely apologise to those who have bought tickets, and all the fans of Misfits for this news.”

Jerry Only in an a recent interview stated the band will be recording and releasing a new album in 2011. I guess this would be the reason for the cancellation. But until Glenn Danzig returns to front the band, they will never be The Misfits, so no great loss.
