Wednesday 13 - Calling All Corpses
November 17th 2011 09:53
Sleazy rock n’ roll from the man behind the Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13, you know what your going to get from a Wednesday 13 album. Songs about the dead with a cock rock vibe backed behind some simple but kick ass riffs. It's simple. It’s kooky, It's catchy. It rocks.
"Calling All Corpses" is Wednesday 13 4th album and the formula hasn't varied much since the debut record "Transylvania 90210" in '05 Heavily influenced by cheesy horror movies and spook rock acts such as Alice Cooper make this a fun, shlock horror treat of love, violence, death and the macabre. This is the kind of album that makes Halloween so much fun and why those 80s horror movies are so damn funny to re-watch now as an adult.
Titles like “I Wanna Be Cremated”, “Miss Morgue” and “Bad At Being Human” give you the indication of what you will expect from this album. Within it there is some quality tracks. “Ghoul Of My Dreams” has a great hook and it’s upbeat and catchy. “We All Die” believe it or not as some poignant and touching admissions of love....as well as the reality that we’re going to die!
Joseph Poole (Wednesday 13) does have a great knack for writing campy rock songs. In this his “solo” outing, the formula remains the same and its for the best. The appeal is knowing his style will never change. You won’t have this in your top ten records of all time, but every now again you’ll put this on just because it’s simply good rock n’ roll in the same way you still secretly love Motley Crue albums and Poison records.
