Trial Kennedy @ The Annandale-Live
January 29th 2009 23:28
Sometimes, the best thing in life come unexpected. Having never really paid any attention to this band before, I had no idea what to expect. i think I'd heard a track or two on triple j and I'm sure one of their songs were used to promote some tv show on channel ten last year. but at $15, it was worth checking out.
Having missed the first support, we got in to see The Third cycle. The band had two problem tonight. The chick singers vocal were too low and drowned out by the music. I'm sure she has a good voice and listening to the e.p after the event, she does. But tonight the sound guy did her no favours. The other issue they had to contend with is the fact all the guys in the room were more interested in watching the cricket then seeing them perform. But, through adversity, good things come, and they did a admirable job tonight.
Trial Kennedy took a song or two to warm up but when they were loose and the juices flowing, they rocked the roof off the legendary Annandale. The band were tight, the sound was awesome and they got the whole room moving. granted the crowd weren't in a moshing frenzy and were a little subdued, (as some drunk guys told me after the show) but it was probably due to the fact we were all gobsmacked at just how good this band was.
Towards the end of the set you got the feeling you were witnessing something special. a band, whose star is on the rise. trial kennedy have the tools to be the next big thing in Australian music. They could easily be bigger than contempories like Gyroscope, even the Living End. It was one of those shows where in a few years time, I can say that I saw them play the Annandale before they were big and this will give me street cred. And in the end thats whats it all about.
