Trial Kennedy - "Living Undesigned"
May 14th 2011 02:01
It's fair to say this album almost never came. Since the well received "New Manic Art" things haven't been as successful as the guys would've thought! There was issues spanning from departures to hospitals to new labels and management. But the end result is a strong album taking all the setbacks and channelling them into ten solid rock songs.
The immediate standout is Tim's powerful voice. His passion sung from the depths of his soul gives this band their signature sound. Stacey's riffs sit behind the frontman coming to surface only when required to fill the song with edge and grit. New bassist Richie stamps his influence on the TK sound enhancing what we've come to expect and Shaun’s drums provide enough rhythm and groove to hold it all together.
The songs explore the personal aspects of the bands recent history as is the case in "Strange Behaviour" and the title track "Living Undesigned". Lead single "Best Of Tomorrow" is the positive affirmation to counteract the recent history and is the track most reminiscent of "New Manic Art". "Arrest Room" is a largely a acoustic track about a man stuck in prison for a crime he probably didn’t commit and "My Own" is the one track that lets Tim's vocal range free and is an album highlight.
It may have been a while coming but this is a great rock album by a great Australian rock band. One of the better records to be released this year.
