Timothy Nelson & The Infidels - “I Know This Now”

It's often funny when an album comes along that perfectly captures your precise feelings and emotions at a particular time. It makes you feel like the record was recorded specifically for you and it will forever be reminder of a certain period in life. This album struck a nerve with me and sums up my situation perfectly. This is an album full of love songs. And captures all the experiences both good and bad.
The tracks on this album flow together nicely. Tim’s style of folk pop is upbeat and enjoyable. Even if at time the themes are a little more suited to sadder, depressing songs, he turns those feelings around to uplift the heartbroken and rejected. ‘Run For Cover’ is a perfect example of this. The typical song about the girl you want not noticing you, played under up tempo pop melody with hints of country with the slide guitar solo ending the track. On the other side of the equation ‘Inside Out’ has the same theme but this time, you know the girl would not only feel the same, but upon listening would be shedding a tear of joy.
‘Where Do You Sleep’ is probably the song I connected to the most. A slower track about telling someone how you feel about them and how crazy they make you feel. The underlying current though while reading the lyrics is that you know she’s not going to feel the same. On the flip side the next track ‘Speak The Truth In Love’ is the reverse. A happy, heartfelt love song with in 1800’s upper class society feel musically complete with harpsichord and strings.
‘It’s Going To Get Harder’ is a song about when relationships and feelings start to settle down and the honeymoon period is over and the question first forms in your mind....is this going anywhere? The track ‘Let Her Go’ has a simple message. Move on, find another. complete with gang vocals it’s the call all your mates will say to snap you out of your funk down at the pub on a Friday night.
Tim is an amazing songwriting talent. The two time WAMI winner writes the perfect country/folk pop song. His songs seem to come from personal emotions. He may not of gone through all the tales told on this album but he knows how it would feel to be in those situations and then wrap them simple melodies and easy listening music. Taking on all sides of the multifaceted emotion of love, Tim has summed it all up perfectly, for me at least anyway.
