The Temper Trap @ The Enmore-08/01/10

Twice in 2 weeks in seeing The Temper Trap play so I was curious at how the set will be tonight given it’s a headlining show and a smaller crowd. As I’ve mentioned in my previous review, seeing 10 000 people sing the ‘woo hoo wooo hoooo’ part in ‘Fader’ was amazing. So how would it sound in a packed Enmore? Plus my other curiosity was how the band play out the set list. The one criticism from Falls was that they gave us all the best songs straight up. But given it was a festival environment, it was understandable.
The band came out playing an intro piece before launching into ‘Rest’ followed by the hit ‘Fader’. The band worked through the tracks off the record “Conditions” with ease and confidence. The crowd went off during ‘Sweet Disposition’ and ‘Love Lost’. And just as you got into the music and getting a groove on. They were done. The guys returned for an encore of Bruce Springsteens ‘Dancing In The Dark’, a new track which sounded a little more heavy and little more darker than the bright summery sounds of “Conditions” and ended with ‘Science OF Fear’. 10 minutes after first walking on, they were gone.
The Temper Trap are definitely one of the buzz bands for the summer. Playing the major festivals , they will be a crowd favourite. A solid live sound and constant touring through 2009 has improved the overall performance, but again, they need to re work their set list. Don’t give the fans the songs they want first up because in this day and age of downloading, people will be tempted to leave after getting what they want. But, I suppose that only having the one album with 11 songs at your disposal, and those eleven songs are gems, it’s hard to organize a compelling set list.
Overall, The Temper Trap are great and if you are at a festival where they are playing, drop by to check them out.
