Another musical project from the prolific man Jack White. And with Jack White, you pretty much know what you're going to get. It's going to be loud, raucous, dirty, blues filled rock. With this band, Jack displays his musical abilities by this time moving to the back of the stage and behind the skins to play drums, while some of his Raconteurs mates take up the rest of the instrumentation and Alison Mosshart from The Kills handles most of the vocal duties.
The album comes across o me as a darker, more brooding sound then say a White Stripes record or a Raconteurs album. The songs don't have that immediate likability to them either. Thats not to say that this is a dud of an album, it's just one album that you probably won't be listening to in a years time. For me, the stand out track is 'Cut Like A Buffalo' which has that Jack White trademark sound and suits his voice more than Alison. Other decent tracks include the opener '60 Feet Tall' and 'New Pony'.
The one thing about this album that stands out is how good Jack White is as a musician. Whether it be on guitar, on piano, or on drums. He is an all round talent musician. Which also begs the question, what is Meg's usefulness in The White Stripes, if Jack can do it all?
