Tegan & Sara- sainthood

Canadian pop twins Tegan & Sara Quin return with their 6th studio album "Sainthood". Having released two of the finest alternate/pop records of the 2000's with "The Con" and "So Jealous", "Sainthood" follows on with the same pattern of catchy hooks, sweet harmonies and beautiful emotion.
For the first time, the girls wrote together which has given the flow of songs on the album more continuity and a smoother listen from start to finish. Lyrically, the album is heavily influenced on love and relationships. You get the impression that one sister has just come out of a bad relationship, while the other has just started a new one. Songs like punk rockesque 'Northshore', 'Alligator' and 'Night Watch' are embittered with love lost and heartache. In contrast 'Arrow', 'Don't Rush' and 'On Directing' are filled with complexities in emotions of falling in love.
The twins trade vocal duties for each song and provide the perfect backing vocal for each other. Clearly growing up together, playing music has really helped the girls find their own voice within the group. "Sainthood" really grows on you. The more you listen the more you pick up on. And so far with each listen, I find a new favourite track, which shows the quality of this record. This is quite possibly Tegan & Sara's best work to date and one of 2009's most underrated albums.
