Sublime-40 oz. to freedom

I had a crap morning. Dentists are not fun and neither is root canal surgery at 9 am. Sitting at home on such a lovely summer day seemed a waste, so when the feeling returned to my face, I grabbed my iPod and went out. Stopping by the bakery to up one of my favorite rolls and a bottle of water, I sprawled out, barefoot on the grass overlooking the bay, trying to get some sun on my pasty white skin.
I had a cigarette and laid back and clicked the wheel to one of my all time favorite albums; Sublime’s 40 oz to freedom. It took me back to younger days. Spending afternoons like this with a mate drinking beer and smoking joints and watching the world pass, with the perfect lazy summer day soundtrack. A bit of reggae, a dash of punk, a slab of ska with some hip hop beats and you’ve got Sublime. If you threw into a studio Ben Harper, Black Eyed Peas, Arrested Development and Pennywise, you’d get a sound that would sound like Sublime. If Bradley Nowell didn’t O.D, they would’ve become a huge hit worldwide. But alas! I have to be content with 22 great songs on one album and memories of easier days.
I love summer.
