Stone Sour follows in Foo Fighter's footsteps.
Nirvana featuring Corey Taylor of SlipKnot
Grohl had been working on songs on the side while drumming for super-group NIRVANA. Taylor started Stone Sour as the same time as SlipKnot, but let it go as the latter band gained in popularity. Once SlipKnot was established as the popular metal band, Taylor and James Root of SlipKnot (Rhythm guitar) invested more time in Taylor's long lost offshoot.
Sound wise, Foo Fighters lack the punch of angst that NIRVANA (Caps on purpose, Cobain-style) had. Grohl single handedly injected pop into rock. No easy feat and it worked.
StoneSour sounds like Bon Jovi for metal heads (well, for those that are too proud to admit to singing "Bed of Roses" in the shower). So, like the Fooies being a softer version of NIRVANA, StoneSour is SlipKnot lite.
Both bands are named after things.
The Foo Fighters are named after a term used in World War II to describe unknown aerial objects.
Stone Sour is an alcoholic drink made of one part whiskey, one part orange juice and a splash of sour mix.
Stone Sour has a long way to go to reach Fighter status, four albums in fact, and a large number of fans to win over. It's unlikely they'll do it, but I'm hopeful for Corey's sake.
