The Australian music scene is in a healthy state. As a nation we've moved from copying the latest genre fad from the U.S or the U.K and have allowed our own tastes develop. It seems as if we have more than a scene, it's a community and each state is vastly different to each other. what that means is that there is great variety on the musical platter and quality is better that from overseas acts.
Brisbane is one scene that is a hotbed of talent. Alternative in truest sense of the word, this compilation "Sounds Like Brisbane" brings together 17 of the best bands around the BrisVegas onto one convienent download sampler. Featuring the likes of long time faves Regurgitator to I Heart Hirosima to some of Brisbane's best new and up coming acts such as hip hop outfit The Optimen, the shanty come folk come sexually mischievous The Good Ship to the cool rock riffs of My Fiction.
A collection of independent labels got together to create this album showcasing not only the best bands in Brisbane but also giving a lot of new artists a chance to get their music out to the listening public. As a kid, the best way to discover new bands for me, was complilation albums. An art that has been kind of lost a little in todays generation. If you itching for some new sounds, it’s well worth downloading this comp. The wonderful people at SGC media have it available for free, so there’s another incentive to go and have a listen, because the best things in life are for free!
