Social Distortion & The Bronx @ The Enmore 1/3/11
March 7th 2011 09:31
I've been privileged this last summer to see some bands I grew up with. Bands I'd thought I'd never see. Iron Maiden, Primus, Tumbleweed, Arrested Development and the motherfucking Descendents! Tonight I got to see one more. For the first time in the country Social Distortion.
First on were The Bronx, with their groove filled hardcore. Reminding us that their set will be short, they pulled no punches and got the floor jumping. Even singer Matt Caughthran got in on the fun and jumped in for a slam dance. Mixing old with the new (including a brand new one) they wet the whistle while we waited for Social D.
Mike Ness has the voice of a man thats lived a hard life and he has, but he's also a success story. From addiction to jail to being in an iconic punk band, mates with Bruce Springsteen and owning a custom car shop. He is blue collar cool and Social D are that blend of punk, country and Americana rock n’ roll. His first comment about Australia is our love of a tank top. And that a bat in the park winked at him. He described about having a shitty day in a shitty town (‘Bakersfield’) and how ‘Story Of My Life’ was now about us, Social Distortion fans, who grew up on the band, like me.
It was a pleasure to see them play and after canceling on us a few times, fans left contented. Hell, even the Murderdolls (who cancelled there Soundwave sideshow) turned up to watch them play!
Set list in full -
Road Zombies.
So Far Away.
King Of Fools.
Bad Luck.
Mummy's Little Monster.
Sick Boy.
Machine Gun Blues.
Ball & Chain.
Through These Eyes.
Bakersfield.
Sweet Lowdown.
Don't Drag Me Down.
Cold Feelings.
Make Believe.
encore:
Prison Bound.
Ring Of Fire.
Story Of My Life.
