Roller One Motorsports - “Torn & Frayed”

This is a hard album to review. It’s not because it’s a bad disc, but it is certainly one of those records you can only play when in the right mood to listen to it. It’s guaranteed to bring the mood down. The songs are slow and brooding. The overall sound is raw and haunting. The two piece have created an atmosphere that makes this album hard to get into if you’re having a really good day and are on top of the world. But if you’re under a black cloud, then this might strike a nerve.
The music is melancholy acoustic music with a strong leaning towards country. At times this sounds alot like Johnny Cash. Vocalist Fergus as a deep drawl that adds to the sombre tone of the songs. Musically, the album is great. Songs structure and musicianship can’t be faulted. However it does get quite tiresome and boring. Towards the end of the disc it all starts to sound the same.
Perhaps if I listened to this when I was in the appropriate mood then this might change my view of the record.
