Panic! At The Disco-a fever you can’t sweat out.

I don’t like the tag “emo” anymore. It’s overused to describe to many bands, none which actually sound emotive or emotional but get the tag with their look of fringes, tight black jeans, piercings and neck tattoos. Panic! At The Disco don’t look like that, yet their labelled “emo” anyway.
Their debut album created a buzz through the music world. Their sound was different. It wasn’t punk because of the electro beats. It wasn’t hard enough to be rock. It was sort of like cabaret with touches of jazz. It was a melting pot of sounds and influences that captured the imagination. It sounded new. Something rare to hear these days.
Four young boys from Las Vegas with musicianship and talent and penchant for wordy song titles (There’s A Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought Of It Yet and Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Do Without Taking Her Clothes Off) Brendan’s voice suits the musical mix and the lyrics paint a interesting, if not obscure landscapes.
This won’t sit with everyone. Alot of people will find it odd and in a consumerist, conformist society, we don’t do odd. But the record has enough kitsch charm to win alot of fans. “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” has a great chorus and a video that suits the theme and flavor of the song perfectly. (i chime in with haven’t you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door.)
A fever you can’t sweat out is a good solid, debut album. One of the best I’ve heard in a while, highlighting the fact that there is still original music being made out there.
