Every good band will have that one album that defines them. That one album that will win them alot of fans. The album that will receive critic acclaim and success. For some it will come in their first record, for others it can take a few albums. NOFX fall in the latter. Five albums down, ten years and a slow build up of fans and support have resulted in this album-Punk In Drublic
Again, they play on words for the title. Humour and puns and playing on words is a trademark for NOFX. They are just a fun band to listen to and, if you get the chance, a fun band live. Short, sharp, punk rock music that broadens the base of four chords and adds some fine guitar riffs that could sit on a rock/metal album and double kick drums that breaks the mould of punk drumming.
Mike’s lyrics are witty and oozes sarcasm. His vocals are sometimes out of place and maybe off key but they work. I can’t explain it, but they just suit the songs. Tracks like “Don’t Call Me White”, “Leave It Alone”, “Perfect Government”, “Linoleum”, “The Brews” and “Punk Guy” are personal standouts. There’s serious songs mixed with the sillier tracks. Each song deserves it’s place on the album and the flow is perfect for approx. 40 minutes when it the disc ends with hidden track at the end of El Hefe practicing his impressions.
NOFX have their one album to define them. It is Punk In Drublic. The fans love it and whenever you hear a NOFX cover, it will be a track of this album. The musicianship is awesome. They are not a bunch of guys who can barely play thrashing out some tunes. Look at tracks like “Dig” and “The Quass” which are virtually instrumentals show how talented these guys are.
