Muse- rhe resistance

I have avoided liking this band for so long. When I hear a tune on the radio I would like it and find it catchy, but could also see an annoying tendency to it. Plus I’d always mistake them for Placebo and I knew I hated one of them but never knew which one was who. But after hearing ‘Uprising’ play ad nauseam on triple j, I bit the bullet and grabbed a copy of the album.
On first listen I was impressed. Matt Bellamy can write a great song. His vocals soar in and out and around swirling soundscapes of guitars and keyboards. A heavy middle eastern influence is present, along with some excellent classic rock riffs and majestic pianos. His vocals at time sound so much like Freddie Mercury you’d swear it was him.(check out ‘United States Of Eurasia’ and tell me that couldn’t be lifted of any Queen album) Track 3 ‘Undisclosed Desires’ really packs a punch and is a solid rock song and doesn’t sit out of place amongst the grandeur, operatic songs that flow through the album.
The album plays out with a underlying theme of love. Will it save us? Will it haunt us? Will it destroy us? What this album does, is impress...alot.
