Murderdolls - “Women And Children Last”
February 17th 2011 10:57
There is something so instantly gratifying by this album. There’s no truth in the lyrics, there’s no emotional sentiment, there’s no over-the-top production of sound. It’s just a straight up shock n’ roll album. Combining elements of Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and Motley Crue, the Murderdolls are the darker side of rock, but with all the glam that made rock exciting in the 80’s.
Kicking off with the Marilyn Manson sounding ‘The World According To Revenge’, the band delve deep into the horror movie theatrics of tracks like ‘Chapel Of Blood’, ‘Death Valley Superstars’ and ‘Blood Stained Valentine’. But it’s the catchiness of tracks ‘Summertime Suicide’ and ‘Pieces Of You’ with it’s catchy chorus about vivisection that make this album worth repeated listens.
Mick Mars from Motley Crue provided some guest chops and adds that stadium rock dimension that seeps through on ‘Whatever You Got, I’m Against It’. Vocalist/founder Wednesday 13 could easy sing songs about sex, girls and drinking but finds his home with death, violence and blood. Joey from Slipknot provides some great riffs and together make this band work. They could of easily turned this into a cheesy, send up joke band, but the they are serious and passionate about the music and it comes across as a well written record.
“Women And Children Last” may have been eight years in the making but the wait for fans were worth it. Out here touring with Soundwave this year, if you get the chance, check out their set.
