Metallica requests Hate Mail
It was August 1991. Metallica were on their Black Album tour (called so in comparison to the Beatle's White Album). It was around the time they had just got an American number one. Their popularity peak. And Lars Ulrich, ex-tennis player and drumming god, was asking for hate mail.
"This time nothing came up, idea-wise, that was good enough to write a song like 'Whiplash' or 'Dyer's Eve'. Although if you listen to the album there are a couple of songs that have fast guitar riffs - like say 'Through The Never', that maybe eight years ago I would have done all that gallopy drum shit and the song would've turned out fast, but now I hear things differently and...well, I guess if people now think we're playing too slow then they should send all the hate mail to me!"
I tried to complain by joining the Metallica Club, but that costs US$60 for one year of membership.
So, instead, if you have something to complain about to Lars, add him on MySpace. Go on, tell him what you really think about St.Anger.
