Mad Caddies - 'Consentual Selections'

Is it right for an independent ska punk band to have a greatest hits album?? Probably not, but for the Mad Caddies it is more than just a commercial exercise to generate more money. This is a way of saying thank you to fans for supporting the band for over 15 years. This double disc offering is a best of with the obligatory new song thrown in there and serves as a reminder of how good this band really is.
Arriving into a scene that was already getting cluttered with 3rd wave ska bands, the Mad Caddies flew under the radar. We heard the songs on the Fat Wreck Chords compilations, but many probably never bothered to seek out an album. With 5 studio albums (plus EP's), there was certainly enough good material to choose from, and from a fan perspective, The Mad Caddies managed to choose the best of their back catalogue for this album.
Mixing up so cal punk, ska, dixieland and reggae the Mad Caddies have never been afraid to take a bit of a musical chance where needed. Fan favourites 'Belltower', 'Drinking For 11' and 'Road Rash' are on here along with other gems such as 'Backyard', 'Monkeys', the almost annoying 'Preppie Girl', 'Weird Beard and 'All American Badass'.
For casual interest in the band, this clearly serves as a great album to buy. For hardcore fans, there's nothing really worth spending the money on. Many will undoubtedly complain about certain tracks not making the the album (like their cover of Abba's S.O.S) but in the end this is a great representation of the Mad Caddies sound. Touring as a part of Soundwaves in 2011, this could be a good time to brush up on your Mad Caddies tracks.
