Lisa Mitchell-wonder

It would be very hard for any reviewer to not refer to Lisa Mitchell as "the ex Australian Idol contestant". But I think with this record, she should be able to shed that tag, because this isn't an Australian Idolesque pop record. This is an album showcasing a very talented songwriter and performer with a unique vocal style that puts in her in the same vein as a Sarah Blasko, Regina Spektor or a slightly more alternative Missy Higgins.
'Wonder' is 15 easy to listen to tracks. The album is a pleasant background record with the songs having a slightly familiar feel to them. Songs like 'So Jealous', 'Neapolitan Dreams' and 'Stevie' could easily be songs advertisers could use (if they haven't already done so) as jingles to sell a digital camera or an iPod. The lead single 'Coin Laundry' is a kitsch catchy little number with a beat that will get stuck in your head all day. The music is simple and sweet, along with her lyrics and melodies. The tone of the songs doesn't vary to much throughout but the album never becomes tedious or boring.
Having built her craft with a couple of EP's before this and a number of successful tours around the country, Lisa Mitchell has delivered a fine debut album. Lisa is playing a few christmas shows around the country before hitting the summer festival circuit starting with the Falls festival over New Years.
