Laneous & The Family Yah-st ill regal

Having given this a few listens, I'm still at a lost as to describe it. Mixing elements of hip hop, soul, funk, pop and rock with small hints of lounge jazz, reggae and electronica Laneous & The Family Yah have a very ecliptic sound. That probably is a result to the fact that at any one time there is up to 11 members of the band performing. That many of people are bound to bring in different styles and influences that help the songs bubble along like water boiling in a pot.
Having had some success in their hometown of Brisbane and being a Triple J unearthed winner in June 09, this, their debut album sold out on it's first run with the album recently re pressed for a 2nd run and on the back of music, should sell quickly too! From the hand clapping 'Bubblegum' through to the lyrical acrobats of 'Kizyzmuddawitdat' through to smooth soul sound of 'Beads' and the bombastic breaks in 'Crewcut', this record throws many different sounds together without feeling disjointed or out of place.
Definitely a good cruisy album to listen to, while the style has never been my thing, I can see me throwing this one on for ambiance during a dinner/cocktail party. There is no doubt that the group contains some very fine and talented musicians. The talent and the passion for their music shows through the songs. I've always maintained the theory that a music played with passion will be enjoyable to the listener, despite styles and genres and Laneous & The Family Yah convey this.
