Katie Noonan @ The Metro 19/06/10
July 1st 2010 07:16
I couldn’t think of a better support at for Ms Noonan than The Jezabels. Their music is cleverly crafted indie pop with a bohemian edge that probably is more suited to a smaller venue than The Metro. The dance floor was set up with tables and chairs, which is something I have never seen at The Metro before. It created a more laid back casual atmosphere for those on the floor. The Jezabels managed to make their sound fill the room and en capture some new fans with their tidy little set this evening.
Katie Noonan is an unassuming performer. Sneaking onto the side of the stage behind her keyboard, tonight wasn’t just about her and her amazing voice. It was about the music she has created with her new band, The Captains. Focusing solely on their debut album “Emperor’s Box”, the group played a flawless performance of alternative pop highlighted by Katie’s amazing vocal abilities. Whether it’s hitting that high note or her beautiful raspy whisper, there is no doubt that her voice is one of the best in the country at the moment. Relishing being back on stage performing live, Katie warmed up to the crowd as the set went along being engaging and welcoming for those who came along.
If you’ve lost touch with Katie’s work since George (don’t worry, so did I) you need to pick up the Captains album or try and catch her live. The music is sweet, her voice beautiful and thats the simplest and most effective way to describe it.
