Karnivool @ the enmore 18/11/09

Looking at all the tour posters around the wall as you line up for the bar you begin to appreciate how significant the enmore theatre has been to live acts in Sydney. The names that have walked onto that stage from the Wiggles to the Ramones. Silverchair to the Rolling Stones. Rock royalty lives in these walls.
Tonight perth rockers Karnivool took to the hallowed stage and delivered a crowd pleasing 90 minute rock set that left many young males walking out drenched in sweat and without a shirt. Vocalist Ian danced around the stage like a drunk thunderbird with the look to match. The rest of the band played with energy and made the best of the slightly muddled sound. The band played at a relentless pace. Barely pausing in between songs as they fired out tracks of their debut and recently released 'Sound Awake' disc. Crowd favorites where met with thunderous cheers and singalongs.
Karnivool clearly have a strong and loyal fan base who love their 7 minute epic rock songs.
For me, a guy who grew up on 3 minute punk songs, kind of gets a bit bored during long song after long song. In small doses I could like Karnivool. If I was 16 I’d probably love ‘em.
