Jimmy Eat World - bleed american
March 5th 2010 21:41
Four guys with an amazing ability to melody, harmony and power all in the space of a four minute song. The great thing about their sound is that it all blends together so naturally it’s of little wonder that Jimmy Eat World has become such a fan favourite. Jim Adkins has a great melodic vocal and is backed by three guys who share his ear for a catchy, mature punk rock song.
Kicking off with the punchy ‘Bleed American’ before settling into some solid punk rock songs in the likes of ‘A Praise Chorus’, ‘Sweetness’ and the infectious ‘The Middle’. The band explore a greater depth in sound with the acoustic ‘Your House’ and the beautiful ‘May Angels Lead You In’, a modern punk rock ballad that really represents true “emo” sound without the whiny screams and eyeliner.
The album suffered by being released at the same time as the September 11 attacks on New York. In response the band renamed the titled to ‘Sugar, Salt, Sweat’ in respect to those who lost their lives in the tragedy. But the songs have that quality to stand through the test of time and now nine years on, still sound fresh and relevant to the musical landscape as it would of done back in 2001. If you’re looking to get into Jimmy Eat World, start with “Bleed American”. It definitely showcases how great this band is musically
