Israel Cannan - "Walk"
October 19th 2010 09:41
21,484 kilometers, 124 towns, 88 sunsets, 13 songs, 1 album later and you get the debut album from Israel Cannan. The young man from the coast has created a clever and catchy record. Combining elements of folk and rock, “Walk” is an engaging and enjoyable listen.
Israel’s music reminds you of lazy summer days and has a Bob Dylan vibe mixed with Powderfingers’ mellower numbers and a hint of Paul Kelly’s worldly life experience. His lyrics and lyrical approach instantly remind me of Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem. The words are reflective in tone, narrative and depth. Having spent a lot of time traveling the country busking, Israel finally laid out the 13 tracks for this album. The result of all that performing and traveling has resulted in a polished and amazing first record.
Outstanding tracks like ‘Set Me Free’, ‘The Final Day’, ‘One Fine Day’ and the title track ‘Walk’. Each track highlights the talents of this singer/songwriter. The songs are rich and pleasant and very mature for a man in the his early 20’s. This is a great record for over summer.
