Interview : The Priory Dolls
August 23rd 2010 11:05
Preparing to make their way up to Sydney to perform, I grabbed a few moments with Rory to give us a run down on The Priory Dolls.
Give the readers The Priory Dolls history lesson?
Priory dolls formed for a lack of better judgement in 2007. We wrote a bunch of songs, played a bunch of filthy dives, devoured and excreted 5 drummers and released an e.p. a single and a few demos in the process. Finally with a solid lineup we set about making an album and getting our music to as many people as possible.
How would describe your sound to the guy at the bar?
Like waking up from a nice dream in a nasty place.
How’s the recording going for the debut record?
We are currently mixing and couldn't be more happy with how it's turned out so far.
How has working with Dave McCluney (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) influence the sound of the songs?
It made a massive difference being able to record with someone as talented as Dave. He really helped us to solidify our sound and made the whole experience much quicker than we anticipated.
Whats the best piece of advice the group has been given?
Not all advice is good advice.
The Priory Dolls have been asked to create their own festival, who would be on the bill?
The Drones, Spiritualized, My Bloody Valentine, Eric Bogle, Health, Liars, A Place To Bury Strangers, Sonic Youth, Crystal Castles.
What are the bands plans for the remainder of 2010?
Release the album, tour like fuck and hopefully play a festival.
Describe the Melbourne scene in one word?
Crowded
What would be the first song you would put on a mix tape?
Die slow by Health
