Interview : Laneous & The Family Yah
November 3rd 2011 08:23
Laneous & The Family Yah are hitting the road again this year to support their new single ‘Oh She’ and celebrating their recent success hitting the US Radio airwaves. What better time than any to have a chat to the guys about all things Laneous and all things Christmas as we approach that time of the year again.
What’s been happening lately in the Laneous camp?
We’ve been rehearsing new songs and keeping the camp fresh and clean, adjusting to the new line up being a 4 piece. It’s coming along well, I think.
How was it performing as a part of The Big Sound conference?
Good, thanx. It was a nice short set which is always fun and exciting, and on a cool bill too.
How’s the progress going on the rest of the EP trilogy?
Well. We finished the 2nd EP and just waiting to release it for some reason. It’s a very interesting ep, this one. Pretty crazy. It’s loosely a short story of a relationship that burnt brightly and quickly to a quirky sound track.
American College radio is picking up on the Scissors EP. What’s the feedback you’ve gotten from the States so far?
It's a strange feeling really because it’s not something that changes your day to day, how we tour here or what we are doing with Laneous but it’s good to know people are enjoying it. The feedback I've heard is great, Damn (I Don't Know If I??!!??) has been the most popular by far which is funny because I don't even know if radio has played it here ever.
You’re about to the hit the road again for another tour, what new elements are you bringing to these shows?
We’ve cut down on members and added a few more instruments. We’re slowly changing our sound to fit the new line up. new tunes and new interpretations of old tunes.
It’s been a busy year for the band, whats been the highlights for you personally?
The last show we did with our guitarist was his birthday and also a massive warehouse gig we put on called pink dove. That was a really good night, but my personal highlights will always be writing and rehearsing new tunes.
Be honest here, do you download music without paying for it?
No I don’t. I don’t really have a computer, but I totally would if I did have one.
Christmas is only a couple of months away, what are hoping to get of Santa?
A laptop with amazing music ripping capabilities… nah. I want an ebow. These crazy magnet things that make your guitar string play forever, or until the battery runs out, I suppose. haha. and some batteries, santa.
What’s been the best Christmas present you ever received?
Being reminded of my love for jesus and what he's done for us. nah. I don’t know. birthdays and christmas and Easter and stuff all roll into one present-filled chocolaty hazy joyful memory.
What does 2012 hold in store for Laneous & The Family Yah?
We want to go to Europe and we are going to finish the trilogy, start thinking about another full length album. woot woot!
