Sometimes the power of pre dinner drinks and dodgy Asian food means you miss out on some of the supports. Also, when you don't read the bill right, you end up missing out on The Vignettes. But the upside is, I didn't miss seeing Indigo Rising!
Having seen the band play at the ungodly hour of midday at the Annandale a few months back, I knew tonight's show would be vastly different. What impressed me the first time was rock machismo displayed by enigmatic front man Daniel Jex. A little more subdued tonight on the incredibly small stage, he still managed to prowl the space and swing of the roof in true rock showmanship.
The band (how started late due to missing equipment) were given the time to display the full range of their songs. As I have said, being impressed previously by the rock numbers, I was equally impressed by the more slower, instrumental songs, in particular the brilliant track 'Rain' which showed depth in their collective talents. The small crowd seemed to impressed by the band who play 70's inspired heavy rock with a modern touch so they don't end up sounding like a rip off. (re:Wolfmother) Although nothing is funnier and sad then seeing a 10 person moshpit!!
What Indigo Rising do have is set full of good songs, abundance of talent and enough rock n' roll swagger that could see the band propel into greater heights. Playing solid live shows, such as this one, will only benefit the band. An EP or an album would be nice soon too!
