Heartsounds - “until we surrender”
July 4th 2010 15:16
Heartsound is the result of the death of metal band Light This City. No wanting to give up on music and with a love of punk rock Laura and Murray decided to form Heartsounds and play the music that inspired them as kids growing up in the 90’s. Directly influenced by bands such as Strung Out, Good Riddance and Bad Religion, the duo have created a punk record full of driven riffs, melodic vocals and punchy double kick drums.
Sharing vocal and guitar duties with friends filling in the rest of the line up, Heartsounds deliver a strong debut album. The music represents the more technical aspect to punk rock. This probably comes from their work in metal bands and has a strong focus on short, fast, intricate songs. Tracks like the title track ‘Until We Surrender’, ‘Our Last Hope’ and ‘The Song Inside Me’ are the albums strongest tracks. The best thing about this album is seeing a young band with potential knowing full well that they will continue to grow and write better songs and albums in the coming years.
‘Until We Surrender’ is the kind of album I would’ve listened to in my teenage years. Hearing this sound now takes me back to those great days. With so many good albums coming through this year, it is easy to overlook releases like this. I get the impression this will be a band that we will hear a lot of in the future. It might be best to get on the bandwagon now!
