Frank Turner - poetry of the deed
March 27th 2010 00:11
Opening with toe tapping piano intro to ‘Live Fast, Die Old’, Frank Turner immediately drags you into his version of pop/folk/country/punk. On the back of the brilliant “Love Ire & Song” this album explores his music and stories further. Adding instrumentation, genres but maintaining that heart and passion that has won many fans over in the last few years.
An underestimated singer/songwriter, the Jewish English lad can seriously belt out a tune. Whether its the faux protest song of ‘Try This At Home’ to the beautifully sombre ballad of ‘Faithful Son’, he can not only write a good song, but can deliver one as well. He has the ability to mix pop sensibilities with his folk storytelling and teenage punk ethic seamlessly. Songs like ‘Fastest Way Back Home’ and ‘The Road’ being some of the standout tracks.
“Poetry Of The Deed” is another example of Frank Turner’s talents. Critically well received while possibly being one 2009’s most underrated albums, the album is solid and fails to have a weak point. Touring Australia in late April as apart of the Revival Tour with Chuck Ragan, Tim Barry and Ben Nichols, he is worth checking out when in the country.
