Feeder - “Renegades”

Opening with a heavy, crunching track in ‘White Lies’, Feeder pull no punches on their latest disc. Combining the good elements of Seattle grunge, shoe gazer rock and alternative sensibilities, “Renegades” is one of those albums that grows on you and keeps you going back for more listens.
‘Call Out’ is a call of arms to fans to “if you want to hear this song/call out our name”. Anyone who has had a chance to see the video to ‘Renegades’ would most definitely have focused on the subject matter and not the track itself, but when you listen to the song (minus the nudity) you get the kind of track that alternative radio loves. Hard enough to not be commercial, melodic enough to appeal to a broad fan base. ‘This Town’ tells the tale of a woman looking for answers to her despair in a seedy part of town. A rollicking rock number that has potential as a single.
‘Down By The River’ has slow, softer number that smacks of potential to be apart of a teen horror/thriller soundtrack. ‘Barking Dogs’ has a punk pace to it as does ‘Left Foot Right’. This supersonic aural delight of alternative rock is bookended by the punishing ‘The End’ that chugs along like a truck rolling along a desert highway.
This album reminds me of Foo Fighters or Kings Of Leon in their younger days. Riffs to bang your head to, bass lines than are rougher than gravel and songs to sing along to, this album is for you. A brilliant rock album that ebbs and flows at the right time and provides a great stack of tracks made for the live stage.
