Crooked Saint - Every Angry Inch EP
August 11th 2011 09:32
There's something so familiar about this EP. I almost felt like I knew the songs before they even started. Taking elements of blues, country and Aussie indie rock and fusing it all together to create a nice little song debut EP.
Crooked Saint is the brainchild of ex-Rushcutter & The Sparrows Frontman Tim Wheatley. The songs feel like they've been crafted late at night after a few stiff drinks.
Bluesy country feel to 'The Company That We Keep' and to 'Kick The Habit' with an Aussie slant that gets the toes tapping. 'Every Angry Inch' has a Skipping Girl Vinegar sound to it. Cafe folk feel complete with banjos. Haven't banjos made a comeback in music?!
The Big Easy is slower track with a desert country vibe and takes a social commentary at the way people look for the better life not being content with what they've got despite how good they’ve actually got it.
The end result is a cool EP from Crooked Saint. The talent comes from tale telling words that makes this worthy of repeated listens and you get the feeling with further releases in the future you'll get some of Tim Wheatley's best work.
