Cradle Of Filth-creulty and the beast

Ok so this one is for the metallers...
A concept album. A metal concept album. A metal concept album about Elizabeth Bathory. Hardly original? Yet Cradle are not your stereotypical European black metal band with buzzsaw guitars and tortured screams. There's moodiness, keyboards, whispers and spoken word. There's engaging riffs, orchestral interludes, heavy as fuck sections and the world's most riduculous vocal range.
The lyrics read like an Victorian era poem. Dani weaves the words to paint a very graphic tale of the rising insanity and bloodlust that consumed the Countess, Miss Bathory. the musical orchestration blends in with the story that it feels like you could see this turned into a macrbe rock opera for metal fans performed on stage.
The band are tight, the songs are tight and the theme takes new life and interest. Seven minute songs seem to pass in no time. Infact the album clocks in around the 70 minute mark, but you will not notice. Dani's voice is an acquired taste not for your average person. Whispers and growls to death roars and piercing screams, I wonder how he doesn't rip his vocal cords to shreds each and every time.
This album establishes a new heavyweight in an often stagnant metal scene and is truly worth a listen. And if you find it unolerable to the ears, at least read the lyric sheet to understand the brillance of the songs.
