Cold War Kids - “Mine Is Yours”

Picture a windy autumn afternoon. The breeze picks up a balloon that a small child has let go of. It floats, it twists, it turns. It moves through the sky before disappearing out of sight. Thats the image that can describe the new Cold War Kids album “MIne Is Yours”. The album is light, sombre, poppy and emotional. It is a true emo album. No tortured screaming, just a man who lays bare his heart with raw, melodic honesty.
This is outstanding album that justifies repeated listens. Tracks like ‘Mine Is Yours’, ‘Louder Than Ever’, ‘Royal Blue’, and ‘Cold Toes On The Cold Floor’ are stand outs. Sounding a little like Coldplay mixed with Jimmy Eat World with dashes of Vampire Weekend, this album satisfies the urge for some soulful-stir the emotions- punk songs.
Nathan Willett delves deep into his own personal issues to create these great songs. ‘Sensitive Kid’ has him pouring out his childhood insecurities. ‘Finally Begins’ is a confession of opening up and allowing people in, which is exactly what this album does. Allows you in. The music complements the lyrics to create an album that will be on a few end of year polls I feel. If your a fan of emotionally charged, melodic music, then this will be your new favourite album.
