Breathe Carolina - "Hell Is What You Make It"

After reading so much hype around this band in the last twelve months I thought I'd give this record a crack. Apparently if you watch all those scripted 20 something reality TV shows you may have heard of Breathe Carolina. Mixing punk rock harmonies with electronica, a unhealthy use of auto tune and a splash of R&B and you get Breathe Carolina. Dance music for post hardcore kids. And I'm not sure the world needs this.
For me, I'd describe this as a mix of AFI's side project Blaqk Audio with Good Charlotte and Panic! At The Disco's first record. While this is original, it just feels too manufactured to be enjoyable. I get the impression if I had popped a couple of pills and was listening to this in a sweaty crowded uber cool niteclub I might get this record. Bit in the cold stone sober light of a Thursday morning on my way to work, it fails to impress.
Those between the ages of 16-26 will appreciate this most. There's some great "I want you" type tracks that I can see overly emotional teenage girls quoting lyrics as a Facebook status. The band have possibly over layered the tracks with various beats and samples that the tracks sound cluttered and at times, a downright mess. While I can appreciate what these guys are trying to do, it just appeal to my judgmental ears.
